This is a traditional Siberian hand forged Yakut /Evenki knife.
BLADE: 5” long Forged D2 (Х12МФ Rus) high carbon steel. Thickness 5 mm.
Handle: 5 1/4" long, Stabilized Siberian mammoth tooth slub with Mountain Goat antler bolster.
This handle is made of 10,000+ years old mammoth molar harvested in the tundra of Siberia.
The teeth/molars of mammoths are among the most complex of any mammal. They are composed of plates of dentine surrounded by enamel. A series of these plates (crown) held together by dentine makes up a tooth. The number of plates in each tooth is determined by species and the age of the tooth. At the base of the tooth, the root held the tooth in place.
The sheath is crafted from leather and treated with natural oils and beeswax.
Belt loop is crafted from genuine leather.
